Exeter's Community Partner: R.O.

Since we banned single use coffee cups on 1st June 2018, we’ve been giving the cost of the cup to local charities, chosen by our cafes. (Find out your cafes chosen charity here). Exeter chose R.O., the fun younger sister of Changing Horizons. . We asked them to let us know what they’re all about, and find out how they’ll be using the cup cash.

“1st June 2018 was a ruddy good day… a ruddy good day indeed! It was the launch of our partnership & sponsorship from Boston Tea Party (BTP), Exeter, as part of their #noexcuseforsingleuse movement. That means that 10p from every coffee you buy will go towards the work we do here at R.O. Pretty good eh!”

Founder & Chief Visionary, Dan (that’s me), started R.O in Cornwall as a student club night, but it now acts as the events ‘wing’ of its parent charity: Changing Horizons (UK Charity #1146667). Using our music & arts events as a foundation, R.O’s main aim is to:

  • Spread awareness
  • Educate people about mental health conditions
  • Provide info about places people can source help locally.

This charitable mission is a recent, but very exciting inclusion, therefore we are fairly new to the Exeter scene, but have already planted our foot pretty well.

The first event with BTP was at Haldon Forest on the 16th June and was named ‘The Early Morning Dance Party’ for a reason! People young and old joined us from 9-11am (with yoga from 8-9am) to kick start their weekend with great music, hula hoops, glitter, flags and even an all inclusive dance class… all below the forest canopy!

Here’s a little taster of how it went.

This summer also marks the launch of R.O’s ‘Take Ten Tent’ which will be at a few festivals this summer, Top of the Gorge & South West Outdoors Festival to name a few. Expect free yoga, free meditation, free tea and free conversations!

Through simple surveys at each event, alongside capturing beaming smiles and expressions of love & happiness through photos and videos, we know that our events have a positive impact on all attendees. At the end of the day, if we make someone smile, then that’s enough for us! We like to access as many different people as possible through our events, so we have a lot of exciting ideas brewing in the R.O kitchen. With the help from BTP and their lovely customers, all that has just got that little bit more achievable!

Thanks so much.
