The Boston Tea Party uses 100% arabica beans from a range of countries, imported by our roasters in Somerset, D J Miles & Co. We never use beans roasted more than 10 days previously. This, plus an accurate espresso extraction method, is the key to why our coffee is so tasty, malty, naturally sweet and never bitter. We offer 100% fairly traded coffee.
The perfect cup
The chemical properties of the bean, water and milk react to temperature and pressure to make a particular flavour while the skill of the barista will ensure a perfect cup of coffee every time.
The Beans
BTP uses only 100% high grade arabica beans, imported as green beans and expertly roasted by D J Miles. The bean is a fresh product and must be kept in dark air-tight containers and always used within a few days. We therefore use all our beans within 10 days of roasting and grind them only minutes before using them.
The Grind
Most of our coffees are made with a double shot of espresso. An espresso needs the perfect grind to ensure that the coffee particles are exactly the right size. Too large and the water will rush straight through, too fine and the water will slow down and pick up bitter oils.
The Espresso Machine
We use long drop Faema espresso machines in most of our stores which we feel are the best in the business and create the correct combination of water temperature and pressure.
The Barista
All the above will come to nothing unless in the hands of a skilled barista. All the baristas at BTP are extensively trained before being allowed to make your coffee.
